Hello September!

The air has a crisp scent to it and the mornings are once again clothed in light darkness which means September is right around the corner. It also means that one of my favorite shopping trips has already been planned, school supply shopping. Of course, I was only able to pick up a few things as I will receive a list of art supplies to purchase once I have started my course.

Every year I can’t help but buy a few cute notebooks as well as new pens and pencils. Getting new school supplies always makes it easier to get into the routine of classes and provides me with an incentive to keep up with my studies. There’s something about packing my school bag with new supplies that feels like Christmas morning to me. Along with school supplies though I know I am likely to shop a little for a new accessory or clothing item before I head back.

The fall represents new beginnings and a time to begin new adventures. Although, starting school can at times seem daunting, however, I’ve always loved the ending of August because it means early mornings and days full of learning. This might sound rather cheesy but learning new skills and testing myself academically has been something that I have enjoyed about school since I was young.
The summers might be full of sunshine, beach days, and summer evenings but I tend to thrive in the fall when the weather gets cooler and houses seem cozy, and sweaters are a necessity. Thankfully I’m all set to head back for another school year and looking forward to the changing leaves, boots, and everything pumpkin.

I’m always down for a new summer trend but I must confess as a tall girl crop tops have never been a friend to me, so I was pleased to see that this year loose fitted dresses seem to be hitting the scene. Cotton and baby blue were music to my ears as I headed out shopping to find a few new pieces for this year’s summer wardrobe. There are five trends that I am loving this summer.
1. Tasseled earrings
Tasseled earrings are the perfect way to add a pop to an outfit and an inexpensive way to grow any wardrobe.

2. Off shouldered frilled dress
What I love most about off shouldered dresses is that they just form fitting enough without being too tight in the heat of the summer. They are also feminine and perfect for a summer day or evening.

3. Pinstripe jumper
Jumpers are an easy outfit choice because they are an entire ensemble in just one garment.

4. Summer beach hats
Hats are one of my favorite accessories and are helpful in the summer to beat the heat and add flair to any outfit.

5. Ruffled denim dress
There’s something about denim dresses that make me feel like a little kid again, and the sleeves of this denim dress are amazing, they feel like little clouds attached to your arms.

What I like most about this year’s summer fashion is that it is simple and extremely comfortable. Pastel colors are everywhere and compliment a new summer tan tremendously well. Which is why I am loving all these summer looks and will be sorry to put them away until the next summer season. Although the ending of August is the start of my favorite season, Autumn, which is full of new beginnings and crisp fall leaves and of course fall fashion.

Tying the knot bohemian style.

Every now and again I meet someone who impacts my life instantly, and last fall I did just that. She had teal colored hair and had a hippy vibe going on, and was truly compassionate about creating good art. All qualities that I admire, and I luckily was able to call her a friend throughout this year and snagged an invite to her wedding. I could not have imagined a more magical night with two people surrounded by their loved ones and truly made for each other.
The décor was absolutely breathtaking and everything had such a personal touch with artistic flair. With a color scheme of different shades of purple paired with luscious pops of green, the outdoor wedding was picturesque. To add to the elegance, they got married under a handmade geometric arc decorated with flowers. The vows that they exchanged were personal and endearing and unconditionally true.

To say the least, it is a night I will remember fondly. I am no wedding expert, but I think that all the planning that went into the event paid off, the photo album with the polaroid pictures was a hit and a beautiful way to capture memories of the day. The weather was ideal and getting married in the evening was genius as the golden hour was right around the corner.
I don’t mean to exclusively write about weddings, but I felt that I had to say how much of a lovely wedding that it was. And of course, the dress that she wore was amazing. It lightly flowed around her with a layer of tulle over the top of a nude dress that showcased her waist and figure with a V-neck at the top. The tulle had flowers and leaves incorporated into the design which perfectly matched the woven crown of flowers and leaves on the top of her head. Which might I add her hair was the glorious color of lilacs mixed with hydrangeas, she was a bohemian queen on her wedding day. There was, of course, a costume change for the first dance in which her inner Marilyn Munroe was channeled.

I would highly recommend an outdoor wedding if you like a bohemian earthly vibe, that is intimate and charming. Whatever kind of wedding a couple has the most important thing is that they celebrate how they are starting a new life together, for each other, with each other. I feel blessed to have shared their special day with them and all those who love them dearly. I look forward to hearing about all the amazing new adventures that they with undoubtedly have as a married couple.

Congratulations to the happy couple!

My Rose Gold Obsession

Color is an important part of our everyday lives. Color can set a mood, and create a feeling, it can influence us subconsciously and affect our clothing choice. The colors we wear often reflect our personalities and attitudes. So why not join the craze of rose gold? If you’re looking for an extra pop of color look no further. Once a color becomes popular you see it appear everywhere. It begins slowly and then all at once there are rose colored make-up, clothing, technology, and even hair products.

Yet, what is it that attracts so many of us to this flirtatious color? It’s no wonder that gold with a hint of pink would be a hit. Especially with the aesthetic of media platforms like Pinterest and Instagram advertising the newest trends. Is it because we want to relieve our childhood adventures when the days were full of sparkle and ended in pink and orange sunsets. Or are we just searching for yet another way to be extra?

Gold and silver accessories have always been popular but rose gold gives us another option. Silver has always made me think of the first snowfall of the year or Christmas morning. I often wear silver in the winter and occasionally in the summer months. Gold, however, I reserve for when I’m blonde, tan, and rocking a sundress.

Rose gold is a warmer tone that leaves you with a taste of when you were young, it a bold statement mixed with a little bit of fun. The color is refined and sophisticated. It makes me remember a time when my favorite color was undeniably pink. When I was a kid I had one main obsession and that was the color pink. My go-to outfit was a pink Barbie suit and you can ask my mother she must have washed it three times a week just so that I could re-wear it almost every day of pre-school. I wore the outfit for a good three years and when I outgrew it, I cried, my mum cried, and to this day the outfit is in a sealed bag in my closet.

So, whatever your motives are for wearing rose gold you can bet that it will complement just about any outfit and make you relive a time just like me when pink was the only color that I wanted to wear.

The Summer of Weddings

I’ve had to ask myself this summer what do you wear to a wedding? Since I am in my early 20’s I’ve not had much experience with being a wedding guest. However, in 2018 that is about to be a thing of the past. I’m told that weddings come in threes. I have received an invite for two already and am patiently waiting for a third. (Coughs loudly) I think you know who you are if you’re reading this. Now invitations are an important thing, what vibe does the card itself give off? Depending on the answer it can help determine a suitable dress code.

The wedding I have just attended required a new dress and more formal attire. The invitation was elegant with a gray color scheme. Since I was also speaking during the ceremony and reception I decided to go for a more formal dress during the first part of the wedding and changed into something more glamorous for the evening. That aside it is not always easy to determine what kind of outfit to wear to a wedding, it is impossible to predict what others may wear as well.
For the summer I would embrace your inner bohemian or borrow a page from gossip girl and show off your legs like Serena van der Woodsen. One color to avoid at all costs would be white, I tend to favor vibrant pops of color or soft pastels. I have found though that the ideal outfit is the garden party dress, because of its elegance, knee-length, and whimsical appearance. It is not over the top and just fancy enough to be the perfect piece in any summer closet.
The second wedding I will be attending is an indoor/outdoor wedding of one of my friends. I suspect it will be gorgeous because it will be in mid-August in the evening, with twinkle lights and dried flowers. Now, keeping in mind at some point I will find myself in a field, heels will not be part of the plan. Bohemian will probably be the best style to try out seeing as the wedding itself is themed around plant life and simplicity.
Appearances aside the main part of going to weddings are to celebrate the love of the couple who you are going to support. Regardless of the outfit that I choose to wear I know that I am down to dance all night and make memories with friends. I just plan to achieve the following while adding a little dash of glamour.
